It seems that I was preparing to quit smoking for years and every time I thought about quitting I would get anxious and stressed out. When I was preparing to quit smoking I wanted as much ammunition as I could get my hands on to overcome my smoking habit. I found a lot of that information on the Internet and what it told me was; there are different approaches to quitting smoking and what worked for one person may not work for me.
I had mixed feelings when it came to quitting smoking, for some reason there was a part of me that liked to smoke and I did not want to give that up. To overcome this; it was helpful for me to develop a list of as many things as I could think of that were positives when it came to quitting smoking. For example: save money, smell better, spend more time with my family, etc. Whether you look at the positive of quitting smoking or the negative of smoking you can come up with a good list that supports your decision to quit smoking.
Each and every one of us will have to decide on our own whether quitting smoking is truly what we want to do. Don’t worry if you have mixed feeling. There will be instances throughout the day that challenge your decision to quit, it is important to stick with it.
Get started by making a list of reasons why quitting smoking is what you truly want to do. Don’t just focus on the health issues but expand to as many aspects of your life as possible. This list will come in handy when you do quit smoking and are faced with cravings.
